In the past couple of days, our speech class has organized
several topics for us to individually present in groups. The topics presented
were the current state of the pandemic, education, and racism. Everyone was a
part of the presentations and did their fair share of work needed to complete
the presentation. The whole presentation process went smoothly, and information
was easily presented.
The COVID-19 Pandemic, Group 1 oversaw this topic and did a
great job delivering the information. They spoke about how the pandemic has
been affecting us and everything around us. They also spoke about how we have slowly
transitioned and adapted to what is now considered “normal”. They also went
in-depth on how education was affected and moved virtually, affecting young
people by having to join the class through their computers every day, and how all
the public regulations changed. Public places always require masks, while also
emphasizing that it was not necessary for other states in the United States to
wear a mask. After one year during the pandemic, regulations slowly started to
adjust and change a little bit and become overall less strict. Not all places
require masks now and some things are going back to normal slowly. I feel like
everything shouldn’t go back to normal just yet since COVID-19 is still being
spread and we should keep the same precautions to beat this virus.
Group 3 had a similar topic, but further focusing on the effects of COVID-19 on education. Bringing to light that students are not as focused during online classes and are more easily distracted. Students are most exposed to distractions since they are at home. Personally, I agreed with what was said mostly because I struggle with the lack of concentration and being easily distracted in online classes. They also explained the cons but the pros as well. Some pros being flexible schedules and more ways to communicate with classmates and your professors. Deeply covered how students and teachers had to adapt to the changes happening all around. Students even had to buy computers to be able to attend class but for the most part, computers were handed by public schools for free. After the presentation, group 3 hosted a Kahoot with some questions relating to the presentations which introduced more information but in a form of a game.
The final topic is racism. It was presented by group 2 and they covered very sensitive topics. They touched up different levels of racism and how it’s being influenced today. These different levels were thoroughly explained and put into simpler terms. Overall, I understood and learned from what they were presenting, and made me realize the small things that are happening all around us. The information was easily presented, and I had no problem understanding what they were presenting. They gave examples of the situations currently happening which made it easier to understand all the information given. Personally, I agree with what they said. Racism is being highly influenced today and that is not good since everyone should be treated equally and respected.
