During the past 2 ½ weeks we’ve been working on some really interesting topics that were presented in class (the pandemic, education and racism) overall I would say that it’s clear that everyone worked really hard on this project since all the information presented was dissected correctly and clear to the rest of the class.
The pandemic was presented by group 1; they spoke about how it has not only affected us but the rest of the world as well. They began explaining how life was affected during COVID; now everything is virtual, jobs, school, shopping, anything that you can think of. The use of masks was enforced since it is a way for every person to take good care of themselves and their neighbor, with the masks came the social distancing as well, up to now everyone needs to be six feet apart and taking as many precautions as necessary. Pharmacies and stores were all sold out for about a month, hygiene products, canned food and water were almost non-existing, almost every person started to panic and made matters worse. Two of the most bought products during 2020 were Clorox and Lysol which helped clean/disinfect everything that came in contact with.
Continuing with the pandemic group 3 spoke about
how the pandemic affected the education in the past year and see exactly how
each one of us is living under our new reality. What really struck with me was
the fact that most of us are having a harder time to concentrate in class, even
more than before, today, there’s no way of knowing whether the student is
concentrating and/or understanding the work or simply spacing out Many of the
smaller students (pre-k to middle school) are having a harder time adapting to
this new way of teaching since there’s not a person next to them to guide them
if they couldn’t understand the topic. Another thing that I really liked of
this presentation was the fact that there weren’t only cons but also pros for
example not excessive use of gasoline, not having to wake up earlier, comfort,
etc. Overall, I really liked this presentation and how they brought a light to
each of our minds while explaining how others are handling their own during
this pandemic.
The last presentation that I’m going to talk about was group
2 which touched the topic of racism. Their work was really interesting since
they focused not only on the general levels of racism but went deeper into the
different levels. It begins with biased attitudes, continues with act of bias,
next is systematic discrimination, followed by bias-motivated violence and ends
with genocide. This group divided each level and explained it thoroughly so
everyone could understand. The best thing about this presentation was the game
that they presented in class which was based on the presentation on the
previous class, this was very entertaining and educational.
